The Pioneer boys basketball team hosted the pesky Gallatin
County Wilcats tonight at the Joe in the second b-ball game of the season for
SK. Gallatin ended SK’s season last
season after the Neers blew a 19 point 4th quarter lead in the 8th
Region tourney at Henry County. The
memory of that game seemed distant for the team on the floor as SK jumped out
to a 17-4 lead with several treys by several different players. No lead is ever safe with Gallatin as the Wildcats
came back and scored the final 8 points of the quarter and a 17-12 lead. SK looked a little less rusty than they did
against Boone County earlier this week and played with a little more
confidence. The first half would be a
contest of 8 point swings as each team took their turn running off 6-8 straight
points. SK would take the lead out to
double digits at half-time, 31-21.
The Neers would hold an 8-10 point lead throughout the third
quarter. SK would go up 44-35 with
around two minutes to go in the third only to have Gallatin go on a 5-0 run to
close the third and pull within 4 at 44-40.
Could the bunch from Warsaw rattle the Neers enough to pull of their
third win in a row against SK? There
would be no Wildcat miracle tonight as the SK boys buckled down the stretch and
found some toughness in some hustle and key baskets. Final score from the Joe, SK 63-57. Andrew Sampson was the leading scorer for SK
tonight posting 19.
The boys will travel to Grant County tomorrow to take on the
always tough Scott County Cardinals. The
girls will open up the season at the Joe taking on what should be a stronger
Grant County team.
