Nothing like Kentucky high school basketball in
December. A good crowd turned out to the Joe tonight for a fun filled
evening featuring the boys team versus the Ryle Raiders and a Christmas theme. The student section donned their Christmas
best while the cheerleaders were wearing a wonderful array of Christmas
sweaters. A nice contingent of alumni, including
several former SK players, was on hand for the game tonight.
The night kicked off by honoring former SK standout player
Jeff McKinley. McKinley was presented
with his SK jersey in a frame from Coach Steiner while a very nice message from
McKinley’s former coach Dan Trame was delivered.
In the game, SK jumped out to a 6-0 lead only to have Ryle
connect on several 3 pointers to take the lead.
SK’s Riley Barnes got back into the line-up this week and came off the
bench to deliver some instant offense for SK at the Neers came back to take the
lead going into half-time.
Kudos to the dance team supported by boy members of the
student body in a fun rendition of All I Want for Christmas Is You. The dance team collected over $1,000 in a
Toys for Tots Campaign.
SK would let Ryle back within 3 points in the third quarter
but was able to extend the lead back to double digits. The Neers hit their foul shots going down the
stretch as they went up by as many as 15 points in the 4th
quarter. SK would win by a final of
80-67.
Friday night hoops have been fun this year as a result of
the strong support of the student body.
These kids are having fun with their themes while getting behind their
team. I’ll have to say this is the best
student section dating back to the 2007 hoops season.
