The Lady Pioneers volleyball team walloped the Walton Verona Bearcats in the 32nd District Final with a convincing 3-0 sweep by scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-18. SK looked better than they have in weeks as they clearly looked on a mission tonight.
While the lesson the other night was the “real” season
starts with tournament play, the lesson tonight; having a group of seniors who want to make
sure their season doesn’t end in the post-season. While the
entire team had a great match, the play of seniors Henderson, Eudy and Callahan
really stood out. Henderson arguably had
her best match of the season as she was simply everywhere. She was digging balls all over the floor and
delivered a pancake dig in the third set that was amazing. Eudy got the Neers going in the first set
after SK relinquished an early 5-0 lead.
Walton came back and tied the match but Eudy went on a run where she
made several key plays in a 6 point swing that put the Neers up for good. Callahan was able to find the soft spot in
the Walton defense for several kills.
Seniors need to show the refuse to lose attitude that this group brought
tonight. Henderson and Eudy were named
to the all tournament team while Junior Kaitlin Murray was named the 32nd
District tourney MVP. Murray was jumping
out of the gym tonight and delivered several flat out nasty kills to lead in
that department. Junior Sophie Dunn
delivered a gutsy performance while fighting a bug this week.
SK will find out on Saturday who they play in the Regional
tournament. I certainly liked what I saw
tonight and look forward to seeing how far this type of effort can take you
next week.
Callahan had a cool presence tonight as she gets instruction from Coach Atwood during a timeout.
Nice support from the bench tonight but the wave is so 80's.
Murray had a dominating performance.
You know things are going good for SK when the Sophie Hop is going on.
Eudy delivering for SK.
Henderson with a couple of her many digs.
Coach liking what she is seeing.
