Simon Kenton finished their district schedule tonight with a game against Dixie Heights. The Colonels came into the game with a record of (1-6) but tonight they were the best team on the field, wininng 21-15.
The Neers were fortunate the game didn't get out of control in the first quarter. On DH's first drive they marched down the field but fumbled on 4th and goal from the one yard line. On SK's first play Dixie forced a fumble and regained possession. Three plays later they scored on a seventeen yard run. The extra point was good and with 4:47 left in the quarter they led 7-0.
On the ensuing kickoff SK fumbled once again but the defense held strong and didn't allow a DH score. SK's offense then took eight plays, moving the ball 85 yards for the score. The play of the drive was a forty-four yard pass from Kuntz to Wasson which set up a one yard score by Andrew Sampson. Swanson took the ball around the right end for the conversion and SK took the lead, 8-7 with 26.5 left in the quarter.
Dixie's next drive lasted three plays before they punted. The SK offense once again looked sharp, nine plays ending with a fifteen yard TD pass from Kuntz to Wassom. The PAT was good, SK led 15-7 at the 7:23 mark.
Dixie threatened one last time before the half but Chase Wilson picked off a pass in the endzone and SK took the lead into locker.
The Neers turned the ball over on downs to start the second half and Dixie capitalized. Dixie took over just shy of mid-field and six plays later their QB scored from twenty-four yards out, with 8:31 left in the third the game was tied at 15.
SK's next two possessions started near mid-field but they only gained three first downs on those drives and that was pretty much the offensive highlights of the half.
Dixie finished out the scoring with 7:38 left in the game. On a first down play they ran the ball, fumbled and proceeded to recover in the endzone for the TD. The extra point was no good, DH 21 SK 15.
SK had one more opportunity as the Colonels fumbled deep in Pioneer territory with 2:08 remaining in the game. The drive lasted two plays, a ten yard completion followed by a DH sack and fumble recovery.
SK will have a bye week followed by a trip to finish the regular season against 6A power Scott County the following Friday.
