Lady Pioneer Soccer with Loss vs. Cru

The Lady Pioneers entertained the St. Henry Crusaders in a soccer game that was a rematch of last year’s 9th Region Final in which St. Henry came out on top. The weather tonight on the SK campus was kind of cool as lots of the fans in attendance sported sweatshirts and jackets-basically a perfect night for soccer.

Before the varsity team took the field, the freshman and JV teams also played matches. The Freshman team lost 1-0 and the JV team ended up in a tie 1-1. It appeared that the SK JV team was going to come out with a win but a late 2nd half goal was waived off on an offsides call.

St. Henry comes into the season highly touted after a strong season last year. The Crusaders lost a tough semistate game against eventual state runner-up Highlands but returned most key players from that team.

St. Henry got on the board first in the 23rd minute on a corner kick header that was perfectly executed. The Crusaders would add another goal before half-time.

SK came out with some more intensity in the second half and got a lot more possession out of their game. St. Henry did manage one more goal by way of a penalty kick that would hold up for the final score of 3-0.

The Lady Pioneers did look much better tonight than they did in their opening match against Notre Dame. The season is young and the Lady Eers tough early season schedule will help them get ready for what is hoped to be another successful post season run. There is a reasonable chance that these two teams could see each other again at the end of the season.
