Pioneer Soccer Saturday Wrap-up

The Lady Pioneer soccer team got their first victory on the season as they bested the Ryle Raiders 2-0 tonight at Community Field in a primetime Saturday game. The Raiders started the game with a lot of pressure on the SK defense. SK kept the ball out of the net and got a counter attack going. Senior Krista Russell would drill a shot from about 24 yards out that left her foot with a solid thud. The goal would stand up for the half time score. Jillian Russell was able to get an insurance goal about 10 minutes in to the second half. Russell’s shot kept climbing and the Ryle keeper was unable to time her jump and bring the ball in.

Ryle played with a very aggressive style of attack often sending their midfielders up to the frontline. This allowed the Pioneers to get some of their own pressure going from via the counter attack.

SK goalkeeper Stacy Lankheit posted her first shutout of the season and made some really nice saves to preserve the win.

Their record now stands at 1-3-1.

In boys play, the Pioneers traveled to Paris and Bourbon County High School and claimed Stonerside Cup by besting Bourbon County by a score of 3-1. Garrett Jacobs netted two goals for SK and Tanner O’hara got the other. The boys run their regular season record to 3-4.

Stacy Lankheit comes out to the top of the box to make a save.
