Dixie D Stays Off SK Pressure...

Another nice night for soccer at Meneffee Stadium and Community Field as the Lady Pioneers hosted the Dixie Lady Colonels in a District Match-up of the sister county schools.

Things started off on the right foot for the Lady Eers. The JV girls dominated the Colonels by a final score of 6-0 behind the hat trick by Aris Kuntz. The Freshman has a nose for the ball and the back of the net and it really showed tonight. The JV team is quietly putting together a very nice season.

It looked like the Varsity game was going to start off very much the same way as the JV game. SK came out and pushed the ball right down the throat of the Dixie defense. Shot after shot and cross after cross was thwarted by Dixie early in the first half. Momentum switched at around 12 minutes to go in the half and SK’s defense got to show their defensive prowess. Half-time set over the stadium with the game knotted at zilch. SK dominated much of the half but seemed to get their guard down when they couldn’t punch the ball in.

The Lady Eers came out in the second half much like they did the first half and took the ball right down the heart of the Dixie defense. Save after save after save after save…you get the point. Oh yeah, corner after corner after corner came and went for SK. The Dixie keeper put on a sliding and diving clinic for the fans who started getting a bit rowdy towards the end of the game. In my mind, no doubt the keeper was the difference in the game that ended knotted at nil. SK dominated this game, especially in the second half where they controlled the ball for at least 80% of the half. Senior goalkeeper Stacy Lankheit also posted a shutout. She touched the ball one time in the second half on a ball that really wasn’t even a shot!!!!! Still a shutout and the defense was good all night.

They say ties in sports is kind of like “kissing your sister.” I am not sure that old cliche' does this game justice.

NOTES: Marie Cooper left the game early on after she took a blow to her back. Let’s hope everything is OK.

Pictures are up at http://www.figsphotos.com/ The lighting was good so I have lots of good ones of both the JV and Varsity game tonight. Click on the SK logo in the gallery and then go to Girls Soccer. I will put more here tomorrow as well. My internet pipe runs a little slower with these files.

A typical save by the keeper tonight. They say a keeper can't win you a game?
