In varsity action, St. Henry entered the match tonight ranked third in Northern Kentucky. The SK girls came out and seemed a bit sluggish. The Pioneers might have been feeling the effects from the Dixie game just two nights ago. St. Henry got on the board first as SK played a lot of defense. The SK girls got the goal back on Jessie Cooper’s first goal of the season. The teams went into half-time tied. SK came out in the second half and seemed to pick up some steam and got several good offensive sets going putting pressure on the St. Henry defense.
The game started getting a little chippy and the yellow and red cards started flying. Mid-way through the half, Jessie Cooper got tackled from behind, (no call) and the ball was sent forward. Ali Ponzer tracked the player down, seemed to make a good play but a whistle sounded giving a free kick to St. Henry. The ball was shot on frame, hit the cross bar and bounced out. The AR raised his flag to signal offsides and the ball was knocked in for the second goal. The referee never acknowledged the flag and the goal went up on the scoreboard. This was just a microcosm of what we got to see up in the stands all night.
SK’s record is now 1-4-2. The girls take travel to Holmes tomorrow at 6:00 in varsity action only.
