Bearcats End Pioneer Streak

The Pioneers joined the 32nd District in the 05-06 basketball season. Both boys and girls teams had never lost a game during regular season or district play--- until tonight. The Walton Verona Bearcats upset the Pioneer boys team by a final score of 72-69. SK led by a score of 41-33 at half-time. They stretched the lead to 12 in the second half but the Bearcats never let-up and came away with the win. The WV win was the first over SK since the 03-04 season. Definitely a tough loss for the boys.

The game involved 3 different players with the name of Ponzer; SK's Nate and WV's Peyton and Jordan. I asked Grandfather Vic Ponzer who he was rooting for. Almost in a rehearsed manner, he stated "right down the middle. I just want to see all three boys play good and right now they are." After the game, Vic commented how competitive they Ponzers played. He said, "they get it from their grandmother."

Keep your heads up guys and regroup. One tough loss doesn't make or end the season. There's also a really good chance of facing the same Walton team again.
