SIMON KENTON 9, HOLMES 0 - Junior Tyler Blau recorded the first three goals of his high school career to help Simon Kenton remain undefeated. Blau scored the second, third and fifth goals for the Pioneers during the five-goal first half. Senior Bryan King scored Simon Kenton's first goal of the match. Seniors Alex Branstutter and Chris Kentrup, junior Garrett Jacobs and sophomores Kelley Tyler and Kody Hutchins also scored for the Pioneers.
Sophomore Sam Benner and junior Chris Penny combined for the shutout.

SIMON KENTON 2, ST. PATRICK 2 Thorobred Classic at Harrison County - Kevin Niehaus scored off a cross from Andy Dickerson, and Chris Kentrup placed Alex Branstutter's through ball into the net as the Pioneers took first place in the tournament. Kentrup's goal put Simon Kenton ahead 2-1 midway through the first half, but the Saints managed the tying goal five seconds before halftime.
Although the game officially counts as a tie toward each team's record, tournament rules dictated that a shootout be held afterward, which Simon Kenton won 4-3. Kentrup scored the winning goal in the shootout before St. Patrick's final attempt banged off the post.
Niehaus made the all-tournament team for Simon Kenton along with fellow seniors Matt Bode, Adam Wilson and Bryan King.

Senior midfielder Kevin Niehaus scored his first goal of the season Friday and sophomore goalkeeper Sam Benner posted his first career shutout to lead the Simon Kenton High School boys' soccer team to a 1-0 semifinal victory over host Harrison County at the annual four-team Thorobred Classic.
Niehaus broke a 70-minute scoreless drought when he scored the game's lone score from 14 yards with just under 10 minutes to play. Niehaus scored on an assist by senior striker Chris Kentrup, whose throw-in to Niehaus was played for a one-touch shot.
Benner turned aside four shots while blanking the Thorobreds, who were outshot by Simon Kenton, 32-10. Seniors Adam Wilson and Bryan King were aggressive defenders for the Pioneers by tightly marking Harrison County front-liners, filling passing lanes and suffocating Thorobred shot attempts.
Simon Kenton plays St. Patrick in today's 5:30 p.m. final. St. Patrick ousted the tournament's defending champion Pendleton County with a 4-1 victory in the other semifinal on Friday. The Pioneers, unbeaten after their first two games this season, finished third in last year's tournament.
