The Pioneers did it!!!! They upset defending state champion and number 1 ranked Ryle 2-1 in 8 innings on Thursday. Kayla Morgan and Oklahoma signee Kirsten Allen dueled on the mound to a 0-0 tie after 7 innings. The 8th inning began under international tiebreaker rules with a Ryle runner starting the inning at second base, she would score on a base hit to put the Raiders up 1-0. The bottom half of the inning started with Chelsea Bond at second for the Pioneers. A sacrifice bunt by Megan Pabst was fielded by the Ryle pitcher and thrown over the head of the first baseman allowing Bond to score and Pabst to move to third. The next 2 batters struck out before Destiny Cosentino came up with a clutch line drive single to left to score Pabst and win the game. The loss was Ryle's first regular season loss to a Kentucky team since April of last year when they lost to Grant County.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PIONEERS ON THIS HUGE WIN! The Pioneers will play 4 games this Saturday in Covington at the Holmes round robin tournament.
