Now to the game. There is no way to “mask” it. It was flat out ugly at the Joe. The final score was 24-23 as the Pioneers win by one—that is in the foul category! There must have been more fouls than points in the second half. On the scoreboard, SK wins by a 43-39 score. The Pioneers let the Brossart Mustangs race out to a 9-0 lead. SK didn’t put a point on the board until about 2 minutes left in the first quarter. They trailed at the end of one by a score of 16-7. SK outscored Brossart 18-7 in the second to lead at half-time 25-23. SK led at the end of three by just a point. The Pioneers eeked out a lead of 4 points with just two minutes to go and had to make foul shots to seal the deal.
Chelsea Tolliver led SK with 18 points. However, it was Sophomore Kayla Smith who really came up big by posting 15 rebounds and having 3 blocked shots to go along with 8 points.
Let’s hope this was the last bad game of the year for the girls. SK takes on Scott in a make-up game on Wednesday in Taylor Mill.
