SK Loses Tough One on Road at Cov Cath

Great game between SK and Cov Cath tonight in Park Hills. Pioneers come out on the losing end by a 53-49 final. SK put a great fight up against one of the teams ranked in the top 10 in most state-wide polls.

The game was filled with several lead changes and ties. Game was tied at 16 after one and SK took a two point lead on a Josh Elbert alley-oop inbounds play at the intermission. The Pioneers led by 3 after 3. They stretched the lead to 4 with about 5 minutes to go in the game but the momentum changed after Todd Jacobs returned to the floor with 4 fouls and immediately hit a 3 that started the Cov Cath run and the eventual Colonel win.

The Pioneers played hard but didn't shoot particularly well from the field, connecting on just 35.7% from the field. Hester led the Pioneers with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Hester continues to look better physically following his return to the court. Josh Hurd was held to 6 points as the senior center continues the recovery with the shoulder injury. Hurd pulled down 7 boards but didn't show the offensive punch delivered throughout the year. Justin Kohrs also posted 7 rebounds and definitely let his presence be felt in the arena. The senior also had a couple of huge stick-back buckets in the first quarter. Josh Elbert had 12 points but seemed to have the ball take several unlucky bounces to rattle out.

The interesting stat for the night had to be free throw shooting. Cov Cath hits 19 in 26 attempts while SK only took 10 throws and converted only 3. SK actually converted 6 more field goals than Cov Cath-20-14.

Just some future thinking, the 8th Region winner meets the 9th Region winner in Rupp Arena next month.

SK wraps up the regular season on Friday night against Highlands in Ft. Thomas.

The JV Boys team came out on top against Cov Cath 60-50. SK takes on Boone County tomorrow night at the Joe for the NKAC JV tourney championship.

The boys team will play Williamstown Monday, February 26th at 5:30 at the Joe in 32 District Play. The girls team plays Williamstown in the night-cap.

Flip Flops? Should have picked Justins or Red Wings for better authenticity.
