Oh yeah, there was a game. SK wins the game over Scott going away by a final of 65-46. Simply put, SK was too strong inside with the offense of Hurd and the double digit rebounding of Charge Kohrs. Hurd posts 27 points on the night as a result of 13 of 16 shooting (an amazing 81.25% if you are wondering) and Kohrs claimed 12 boards. For the game, SK dominated the boards by an impressive margin of 37-16. The Pioneers handled the Scott press much better than they did in the early season match-up.
SK came out with the energy you would expect on senior night. Hester opened the game with a long range bomb as the Pioneer reeled off several baskets before Scott was able to get on the board. The Pioneers jumped out to a 19-11 first quarter lead. SK led 29-18 before Scott hit a buzzer three to cut the lead at half to 29-21.
The Pioneers stretched the lead at the end by a score of 43-30 on the strength of Hurd inside and Hester outside as the senior converted back to back threes during the quarter. The Pioneers were able to take the lead out to 20 in the fourth and allowed Coach Steiner to give the seniors one last curtain call at home.
Other notable performances included Elbert with 12 points, 5 boards and 4 assists. Zach Layne did not miss a shot on the night as the junior hit 3 for 3 from the field and 2 for 2 from the line for 9 points. Ponzer came in off the bench and gave some good minutes, especially on the defensive end by breaking up several Scott fast breaks.
SK next takes on Cov Cath on February 20th in Park Hills.
