Tonight’s game featured several lead changes and ties during the first half as the Pioneers seemed to struggle to get on track. SK lead 13-12 after 1 and 24-23 at half but the Pioneers just couldn’t put any kind of run together.
The Lady Pioneers stayed in the locker room until the final few seconds at half-time. When they came out, the Blue Swarm defense was back in play. The Lady Pioneers outscored the Cougars by 18-3 in the third. SK was outscored in the fourth by a 20-19 margin as the Pioneers turned the ball over several times as a result of the Cougars pressure. However, SK's defense was strong enough to hold the the Cougars to 29% shooting for the game.
SK was lead in scoring tonight by Jessica Farris with 22 and Chelsea Tolliver with 20. SK out rebounded the Cougars by a 39-31 margin as sophomores Kayla Smith and Caitlyn Figgins combined for 16 boards. Point guard Lauren Conley dished out 4 assists and stole the ball 4 times to post a strong game.
Congratulations to Kat O’Neil from Conner for scoring her 1,000th point tonight. The point guard fixture for the Cougars has had an awesome career.
SK travels to Walton for the final District game of the regular season. SK is 5-0 in District play and will take the number one seed into the District Tournament.
