The Pioneers continued on their winning path by defeating the Braves of Grant County 77-49 Friday night at Dry Ridge. The Pioneers, now 6-0 to start the season, found the the Braves in a defensive effort to try and stop Mike Hester as he was double teamed early. However the Braves were at a distinct height disadvantage as Elbert, Hurd, and Layne were taller than any one in their starting line-up. The Pioneers got down to business finding Josh Hurd open early scoring 15 of his 26 points in the first half. Hurd ended the game early in the fourth quarter ringing up his first triple double in his career, 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots. Mike Hester followed in the point column scoring 14 with 3 assists and 2 steals. 10 Pioneers scored in the game of the 14 players that played.
SK went 31/65, 48%, from the field with 45 total rebounds. Grant County ended up with 34 rebounds, only 13 of which were offensive. Josh Hurd dominated the inside. Grant County found some relief from outside the arc going 7/22, but only 16/59 total shooting (27%).
The Pioneers will be tested Monday when they host rival Dixie in a war between two big inside men. They close out the pre-Christmas season hosting Walton on Thursday.
