The SK Boys Basketball team continues to roll in the consolation bracket of the 5/3 Tournament at Lexington Catholic this morning by defeating St Mary's of Western Kentucky by a final score of 56-47.
Josh Hurd led all scoring with 23 points, Josh Elbert ended up with 10 points. The win puts SK at 10-1 for the season. They play Lincoln County Friday morning at 9:00am for the winner of the consolation bracket.
Today's game was close all the way until the 4th quarter went SK went up by 10 with 3:25 left to play. Elbert keyed the run with an 8 point 4th quarter. SK held the Vikings to only 2 field goals in the 4th quarter. Despite that, the Vikings made a run at the Pioneers coming as close as 3 points, 48-45, with 1:50 left to play. The game included 6 lead changes and 2 ties in the score.
Mike Hester and Zach Layne both missed the game for injury or sickness. Brandon Maegley and Ricky Parrott played after Tuesday's injuries, but both played very sparingly.
Lincoln County lost it's first game in the tournament by 20 points, but managed to defeat Clinton County this am on foul shots with 2 seconds remaining in the game. SK will have a decided height advantage as Lincoln Cty has players all below 6'3".
