The Neer Volleyball team travelled to Cooper tonight for
their last match of the week. One word
to sum up the evening…marathon. The JV
game went to after 8:00 and the varsity team didn’t wrap up until almost
10:00. The Varsity girls played some
solid ball for most of the match but couldn’t get the key points they needed
down the stretch as Cooper outlasted the Neers by a final of 3-1. Final scores were 30-32, 25-16, 25-19, and 25-21.
I have to give props out tonight though for the JV
girls. They lost their first set and
really weren’t playing what I would call inspired. They were down 15-19 in the second set and
things weren’t looking good. I was
about ready to head to the concession stand for the Cooper Dog when Coach
Hacker called timeout and had some words for her girls. Whatever she said worked as the Neers pulled
out a 21-19 win pushing the match to a third set. Both teams battled back and forth throughout
the final set. I don’t believe that
either team led by more than 3 points.
SK was serving for the win several times but Cooper would get the stop
they needed pushing the game into more time.
As nerves increased, some of the hits became a bit soft. Cooper went up 26-25 but Hacker’s Heros didn’t
let up. SK found some confidence they
had recently lost in their hitting and started blasting the ball. The girls somehow pulled out a 28-26
Win. They flat out erupted with
excitement on the floor. Pretty cool stuff and very exciting. Good
for you girls tonight.
The frosh girls travel to Lexington this weekend for a
tourney but the Varsity and JV teams have a needed rest before taking on New
Cath on Tuesday and their final home game of the season on Thursday against
Williamstown. The game against Williamstown
will also be senior night.
First, the kill...
But then, the celebration. This is just plain awesome and it wasn't even match point.
Sarah going Jordan on the set.
and another celebration.
Biz with a kill.
Curly found her swing tonight.
Carson with the game match winning kill.
and of course one more celebration.
