The SK Lady Neers volleyball team got their regular season
underway tonight by hosting the Campbell County Camels on the freshly
refinished floor of Joe Stark Memorial Gymnasium. The Freshman team got things started on a winning
note by taking the Camels in two sets.
The JV team took to the floor in a game that started early and blasted
the Camels by scores of 21-4 and 21-8-looking very strong and making the match
look easy.
While this was the Neers first match out of the gate, this
was the Camels second regular match of the season.
Jitters were somewhat evident early on as SK struggled in the first set
before settling down and going out to a narrow 25-23 win. SK looked more like the successful preseason
team that they have been this year and put it to the Camels with a 25-14 win in
the second. In years past, this would
have meant the end of the match.
However, KHSAA is playing best of 5 matches this year. Campbell County would jump out to a 7-0 lead
and cruise to a final score win at 20-25 in the third set. SK put together another strong set in the
fourth and pulled away with another 25-14 win.
SK has three matches next week as they take on Dixie (8/14
away), Conner (8/15 home) and Highlands (8/16 home). This team looks like they have the make-up to
really make a nice run at the 8th Region title. Good Luck!
