It looked like in the beginning of the game that SK was going to run away with the game as they jumped out to a 12-1 lead. A couple of 2 on 1 fast break miscues could have meant even a bigger lead. Owen closed out the first quarter on a 8-4 run and trailed 16-9. The Big MO would get on the Rebels side in a big way as they pulled to within one of SK at half-time with a score of 23-22 as their big man nailed a buzzer beater three pointer. You kinda just got the feeling at that point that this might be another regional tourney that might not go SK’s way.
Owen County would take their first lead of the game right in the beginning of the third quarter. The teams would exchange leads several times during the quarter. SK lead 33-28 mid-way through the quarter but Owen would once get to within one going into the final frame. Once again, Owen would take the lead on the first possession of the quarter. Owen would eventually pull out to a 5 point lead in the 4th.
A scary moment happened in the 4th quarter when Cody Chambers drove to the basket. Chambers tripped and crashed under the basket basically landing on his head and instantly started bleeding. It seemed like about 10 people ran on the floor at that time but corner man Nick “Dundee” Repka took over, got Chambers to the bench and had him back in the game before the game’s end. Chambers’ heroics of getting back in the game wasn’t enough as Owen converted a ton of foul shots down the stretch. SK was led in scoring by a strong effort by Casey Sorrell wit 22 points.
Foul shots ended up being the big difference in the game. Owen shot 27-43 from the line while SK was only 15-25. SK missed several key throws down the stretch that could have made a difference.
