For the boys, the story of the night really was defense. Scott scored many points off the inside and drove regularly to the hoop without really being challenged. I kept waiting for someone to “stick their nose in and take a charge” but the fact that Scott opened the game with two dunks says a lot about how the game went along. I will say that the zebras made things interesting at times with a phantom T called against the SK bench. (Coach Steiner was yelling a defense and Coach Davis stomped his size 14's and that was all it took.) There were some curious situations not called as fouls in spite of blowing the whistle and breaking up extracurricular activities. Definitely not the difference in the game but it was interesting.
It used to be that this was a rivalry game. Players would play with intensity, fans would come out in droves and the students would act....well crazy. There was cheering back and forth between the fan sections. I might have missed it but I didn’t see a SK student section tonight. I have been to some of the Scott/SK games where the cops had to get involved by throwing fans out or keeping things calm in the stands. I am not saying that was a good thing but something that just says how intense the rivalry got at times. Tonight’s contest didn’t have a whole lot of energy to it despite the nice sized crowd of mostly parent aged folks.
On the girls side of the ball, my roving reporters on the ground told me that turnovers were SK’s dooming tonight. The Lady Pioneers were actually tied at halftime but gave the ball away too much in the second half to be able to compete for the win.
Not a good way to start the game; this was the second of two dunks in the first few minutes.

Very impressed with the award winning Scott cheerleaders. I am no cheer guru but they did the whole nine yards on the floor, at half and on the sidelines. A very disciplined group. Remember the old days when cheerleaders went to away games?
