In boys action, Scott took an early double digit lead but SK stormed back and took the lead until midway through the 3rd quarter. The Neers got a little sloppy and once Scott took the lead they never trailed again. SK was led by Sorrell with 28 points while Basham and Gray also went for double digits.
The Classic was anything but for the girls. The girls got beat by a final score of 57-39. Things were looking good for SK early in the game as Scott had trouble getting the ball into the post and Lauren Tibbs. Scott committed several first quarter turnovers as the teams got stuck on a 2-2 tie. Things would finally start getting going as Scott goes on to lead 10-7 after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw a quicker pace. SK continued to get decent pressure on the inside and was able to stay with Scott as the Eagles led by 23-19 at half. The Pioneers were forcing Scott into turnovers but couldn’t capitalize and make shots.
The Lady Pioneers came out and hit their first two shots of the second half to tie the score at 23. Scott would turn up the defense on SK and scored the next 5 points. At that point, a technical was assessed against the Pioneer bench. Scott would go on a 12-2 run to lead 40-25. SK would never really get much of a threat going and drops their third game of the season.
Scott would shoot a blistering 56% for the game while SK managed just 25%. Interesting stat for the game; SK shot 59 shots to Scott’s 34. Scott would commit 23 turnovers for the game although this was just not enough to overcome the Pioneer shooting woes.
SK was led in scoring by Sydni Wainscott’s 15 points. Scott’s Tibbs poured in 31.
The girls will play at SK on Friday at 6:00 versus Conner with the boys following at 7:45 versus Dixie.
