The girls got in practice before lunch today and then went over to Diddle to watch Boone take down Rowan County. They took in some pasta for dinner and hit the sack early at the wonderful News Inn.
The story of today; winter weather. It never did get above 32 degrees today. At about the time Boone County was playing, the snow set in and continued to increase throughout the evening. By the time it slowed down tonight, there was easily 2 plus inches on the ground. It did stick some to the roads and we saw a few accidents on the way home but the report is that it is over and there shouldn’t be any problems tomorrow. Last year when we were here, it was in the mid-70’s and the kids were wearing shorts.
Congratulations to our neighbors, the Boone County Rebels for avenging their earlier season 20 point loss over Rowan County today. Boone hustled and scrapped and won much like SK has with intense defense. The Lady Rebels jumped out by about 10 and pretty much just held it there. Once they got the lead in the fourth, the tandem of Bradley and Sandlin pretty much killed the clock. If you would have told me Bradley would only score 3 points and the Rebels still would win, I would have said no way.
Shooting performances here have been dismal. For whatever reason, teams have been struggling from the perimeter. I expect that a lot of that was nerves and that things will get better tomorrow. As an example, Lexington Christian hit only 6 out of 32 shots today. Three of the kids on that team are D1 recruits who are all capable outside shooters.
Interesting that all three teams from the northern part of the Commonwealth (8th, 9th and 10th Region) advanced to the Elite 8. Girls basketball in "these parts" is pretty solid.
The take on Casey County at the arena today is that they are much better than everyone anticipated. I think that if the SK defense can keep their post player from getting touches and they put pressure on the perimeter that SK can come away with the win. However, they definitely can not afford to get a slow start and the offense needs to get in gear from the start. Players to watch, 5, 40 and 21.
Very impressed today with Elizabethtown and Henderson County. E-town had a lot of props in the press through the year but I have not heard a lot about Henderson- although they are a top 5 CJ team. They have a good point guard, solid three point shooter and the best post player I have seen in the tourney in Poindexter. I didn’t get to see Iroquois yesterday but I think Henderson is probably the best team I have seen down here.
The pep sections have been entertaining. The best two pep sections have been E-town and Ohio County. E-town had a theme of super heroes and they had a banner that said Our Girls Are Our Heros. Ohio County had a beach theme and the kids had pool noodles that they waved and pounded on the sign in front of them. One kid wore a turtle pool ring with no shirt. Gotta love that school spirit.
Remember, call your neighbors and get here Friday. I would love to see the same Pioneer Nation that turned out for some of the football games this year.

I will give LCA's pep section an honorable mention. Pretty solid cheering but no theme.
