Lady Pioneers Strong 2nd Half Clips Eagles

The Lady Pioneers had a matinee make-up game Saturday afternoon with cross-county Scott Eagles. The JV started things off by setting the tone again with an exciting team. Coach Barwell about ran out of players as several (I think it was 4) kids fouled out of the game. Scott didn’t fare much better as they also had 3-4 girl foul out. The game lasted for almost 90 minutes which meant the varsity team didn’t even come out for warm-ups until 1:30.

In the varsity game, the Eagles came out and hung tough with the Pioneers. SK led 20-13 after the first quarter. They went up by double digits in the second quarter but it didn’t last as Scott hit a few threes to stay close. Scott’s Lauren Tibbs didn’t get her first point in the game until 1:25 left in the second quarter. Coach Stowers was able to rotate Figgins/Smith/Figgins on Tibbs who all did a nice job of keeping her from getting on track. SK led 36-30 at the half.

The Pioneers started pulling away from Scott in the third as Scott seemed to wear down. Chelsea Tolliver got to the rim often for her team leading 28 points on the day. The Pioneers won by a final of 87-58 as they put a 51 spot on the board in the second half.

The game with Ryle for Tuesday has been postponed. Also, the game with Boone County for next Saturday has been cancelled.
