Simon Kenton, which upset Boone County on Friday night for the regional Class 6A football title, became the first No. 4 seed to reach the semifinals (in any class) since 1999. The only non-No. 1 seeds remaining in the state tournament (once again, in any class) are John Hardin (5A) and Lexington Christian (1A), both of which are No. 2 seeds.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association keeps online records of seeding and postseason results dating back to 1995. After some exhaustive research, this is what I came up with, regarding semifinal teams during the last 14 seasons:
No. 1 seeds: 186
No. 2 seeds: 38
No. 3 seeds: 12
No. 4 seeds: 4
(Since 1995, no other fourth-seeded Northern Kentucky team has reached the semifinals.)
Lawrence returned to action this week after getting injured in the Conner game.
Kind of looks familiar...?
Hard to tell but the hard-hitting Austin Baldwin is on the other side of this hit.
