SK PIONEER SPORTS: Pioneers with W on Senior Night...

The Pioneers hosted the Holy Cross Indians for senior night in the final home game of the season at Chlorine Meneffee Stadium. Interesting that this crowd seemed smaller than last week’s small crowd even though it was senior night. It was also a crowd that was very quiet as well. Halloween festivities must have kept everyone away. SK comes away with the win by a final tally of 36-13. The big news from tonight’s game was the fact that Miles Simpson broke Charles Siffel’s single season rushing record of 1,555 yards that had stood since 1968.

SK won the toss but elected to go on defense. The Pioneers must have had a good feeling because Nick Brown jumped the passing route on the very first play from scrimmage and pulled in an interception that he carried deep into Indian territory. On a third down play following the possession, Miles Simpson scored his first of four touchdowns on the night. The two point conversion was good.

Holy Cross got their first touchdown on a quarterback keeper where the Pioneers failed to wrap up and subsequently allowed the touchdown. Simpson would get his second touchdown of the game where he ran down the left sideline like he was shot out of a cannon. The extra boot would make it a 15-6 game. The strangest play of the game occurred after Zach Thomas blocked a HC fields goal. Unfortunately, the ball was recovered by HC deep into Pioneer territory.

SK would get two more Simpson touch downs in the second half. TJ Dewalt got SK’s final score after the Pioneers took over in HC territory after a fake punt.

The Pioneers came away with the win but I am not sure they looked as good as they did last week; more penalties, missed tackles etc. The team will take next week off and then travel to Lexington in playoff action. More information on the playoffs will be provided once it is available.
