Pioneers Home Opener Fayed by Bluebirds

The Pioneer boys soccer team took their turn initiating the new turf at Menefee Stadium tonight hosting the Highlands Bluebirds. The JV team lost a tight match by a final score of 2-1. SK jumped out to a 1-0 lead before the Bluebirds came back and scored two unanswered goals for the win.

The varsity boys took to the field looking for their first win of the year. SK took the kick-off to start the game but a pass was intercepted by the Highlands attacker streaking towards the ball. Two touches and the score was 1-0 before even 15 seconds had expired from the clock. This would hold up as the final score of the half.

SK came out playing with more intensity in the second half. The Pioneers captured some momentum but were unable to score. A couple of nice chances went by the wayside for the Pioneers. Then, without notice, Tropical Storm Fay dropped about an inch of rain on the new Community Field. Soccer fans went scrambling for the concession stand and press box as the water came down in sheets. Just as quick as the rain came, so did the Highlands goals as they were able to score 3 total in the second half. For whatever reason, the rain seemed to take some momentum out of the Pioneers.

SK played hard but suffers their third loss of the season.
