Lady Pioneers Host Lady Camels

The Lady Pioneers hosted the Campbell County Camels at Meneffee Stadium tonight on an absolutely beautiful night for soccer. All three teams were involved in action tonight. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the Camels take two of three from the home team.

In the Freshman game, SK jumped out to a 1-0 lead only to see the Camels tie the score before half. The Camels were able to take the lead late in the second half and hold on for the win.

In JV action, SK scored early on a beautiful goal by Allison Durr from about 25 yards out. The Pioneers added an insurance goal by Aris Kuntz. SK possessed the ball for much of the game. The Camels mounted a late charge but SK was able to maintain the keeper shutout for Taylor Secrist and Ashley Repka. Repka had a couple of tough saves in the second half making the sliding save to preserve the shutout.

In the nightcap, the Lady Pioneers faced a stingy defense of Campbell County and lost by a 2-0 score. SK played hard but had trouble finding the back of the net. Campbell County got their first goal on a PK after a handball infraction was called in the penalty area. I didn’t see it but I had to wonder did the ball play the hand or the hand play the ball? Nevertheless, CC’s Anne Marie Dumaine came from the sweeper position to score the first goal on the PK. The Lady Pioneers had a fairly decent amount of ball possession in the second half but a counter attack by the Camels led to their second and final goal of the game.

The Lady Pioneers game with Holy Cross scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled.

The Boys team gets their first shot at playing on Community Field tomorrow night when Highlands comes to Independence.

The G Family Tradition continues...
