The Lady Pioneers started their post-season charge tonight by toppling the Williamstown Lady Demons by a final score of 73-38. Williamstown was never really in the game despite the somewhat slow start by SK. The Pioneers went up 4-0 in the first minute of the game and the Williamstown called a time-out with 7:04 left in the quarter. SK didn’t get their next bucket until the 5:08 mark and went up 6-0. Williamstown finally got on the board at the 5 minute mark. SK went on a scoring barrage during the last minute as Farris and Ponzer both hit treys. Williamstown turned the ball over to SK with just two seconds in the quarter. Coach Stowers pointed to his temple and the clock. On cue, Ponzer threw the ball into Farris who shot and nailed the three as soon as it hit her hands. The score after one was 25-6. Conley and Tolliver hit threes in the first two minutes of the second quarter to extend the SK lead to 31-7. The Pioneers went on to lead by a half-time score of 41-19. For the half, SK shot a nice 40% (6/15) from three point range. They outrebounded Williamstown by an 18-17 margin in the half.
The second half was used by Coach Stowers to get minutes for a lot of the Lady Pioneers. 11 SK players ended up scoring. Wainscott, Conley, Tolliver and Farris all ended up in double figures for the night. The Pioneer defense forced Williamstown into 33 turnovers.
SK will play against Walton Verona on Friday night in the 32nd District Championship at 7:00 at Grant County.
