SK Soccer Splits with Scott in President's Cup Action

The SK Pioneer JV And Varsity Boys and Girls soccer teams traveled to Taylor Mill and Scott High School for President’s Cup Action, hosted by the Independence Soccer Club. Winners of each game take a traveling cup back their trophy cases for the year. For the night, SK and Scott split the 4 games.

JV Boys Scott 2-0
Varsity Girls SK 2-1
Varsity Boys Scott 4-1.

In the opener the JV girls came out strong and executed some strong ball movement to start things off right for SK. Scott never really mounted much of a charge.

JV boys action found the Scott Eagles scoring two early goals on the Pioneers. SK settled down and ended up in a game with no change in score after the first five minutes of the game.

The varsity girls came out strong and dominated the ball control game. The ball barely crossed into the Eagles offensive third for the first several minutes of the game. Marie Cooper got SK’s first goal on the far post cross from fellow Junior Lyndsay Figgins. Junior Krista Russell scored just a couple of minutes later on a ball that was sent far post, caught the post and rolled over the goal line. Scott got a long-range second half to make the score interesting. Exact stats weren’t available but I heard someone say that SK outshot Scott 24-4.

The boys varsity final saw the Eagles race out to a 2-0 half-time lead and 4-0 second half lead before the Pioneers were able to score on a corner kick. SK had a player knocked off the ball late in the second half in the penalty area. It first appeared that SK was going to be awarded a PK. However, obstruction was called and SK was awarded an indirect free kick instead of the PK.
