The Lady Pioneers soccer teams traveled to Campbell County for a triple header for a beautiful night on the pitch.
The Freshman lost by a score of 1-0 on a last minute shot. The JV team lost in similar fashion with just minutes to go after dominating the second half of play.
Shortly after kick-off of the Bengals game, the Varsity took the field to hopefully extend their excellent play from Saturday night. In back and forth action, the Camels struck first in the half and capitalized on a corner kick that bounced in the box that subsequently was knocked in for a 1-0 lead.
SK came out in the second half with a tone that they were going to leave everything they had on the Campbell County field. They simply played hard and physical soccer. Unfortunately for the Lady ‘Eers, they were whistled for 16 infractions and received two yellow cards in the process. This situation seemed to interrupt the Pioneers rhythm, take them out of their game or whatever you want to call it, but they kept their heads up and dominated the second half of play and put all kinds of pressure on the Camels D. For the game, they outshot the Camels by a whopping 32-13 margin.
SK got a tying goal from Kelsey Rust (I thought originally it was Brie) after the Pioneers turned up the offensive pressure. The tie did not hold up as the Camels were able to get the good bounce and go ahead 2-1. In true Pioneer grit, the ladies kept up the pressure and another goal off Shay Nienaber’s header with 7 minutes to go. SK had several more scoring chances but simply couldn’t capitalize.
Although the Lady Pioneers didn’t come out with the score they were looking for, they have more important games later this week as they face district foes in Villa Madonna on Wednesday at SK and the Scott Eagles in President’s Cup action on Saturday.
Ladies, keep your heads up and congratulations on your effort. Nobody can question the fantastic display of determination and hard work by all three teams tonight. Soccer is a funny game and just doesn't go your way sometimes.
