Lady Pioneers in a Hot One

Chlorine Menefee Stadium was sweltering tonight as the Lady Pioneer varsity and JV teams took on New Cath. Game time temperature of the JV game was right around 97 degrees.

The JV team got a first half goal from Katie Zapt off of a beautiful cross from Elena Key. That was all the offense that the Pioneers needed as they held on for the 1-0 win.

JV success on the field usually has been a good sign for the Varsity team in SK’s first two wins. That wasn’t the case tonight as the Varsity girls evened their record at 2-2 after suffering the 2-1 loss. New Cath got on the board first in the first half but SK came back off a nice aggressive play by Junior Brie Marti who found the back of the net to even the score before half-time. SK played a lot of defense in the second half and eventually allowed the go ahead and final score of the match. SK got a couple of chances late in the game but the ball just didn’t bounce the Pioneers way.

SK next plays Brossart on Saturday at Pendrey Park.
