The Pioneer fastpitch team erased an early 2-0 deficit to win their 4th game in a row Tuesday evening. Walks to Kayla Stephens, Jessica Farris and Lindsey Bridges loaded the bases in the sixth inning and an error by the Grant County first baseman on a ground ball by Nicole Rikson allowed the Pioneers to tie the score at 2. The game went to extra innings, under international tie-breaker rules, with Kayla Stephens starting the inning at 2nd base, she was then sacrificed to third by Chelsea Bond and brought home on a sacrifice by Jessica Farris. The bottom of the eighth started with a Grant County runner at second, the lead-off batter struck out and the runner was caught trying to steal and the last batter struck out as the Pioneers come away with the 3-2 win. The win moves the Pioneers to 2-0 and first place in the district.
The Freshman team also had a strong showing with a 10-3 win moving their record to 2-0.
Next action will be Thursday at Highlands followed by the Bulldog Bash tournament in Covington on Friday and Saturday.
