Lady Pioneers Fall at Home to Lady Rockets

Shelby County got out to an early 5-1 lead before back to back doubles by Kayla Morgan and Nicole Rikson and an RBI single by Chelsea Bond cut the lead to 5-3 in the fourth. Two unearned runs allowed Shelby County to move the lead up to 7-3. The Pioneers loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th with one out giving them a chance, but a pop up to first for a double play spoiled the rally. Over the weekend the Pioneers took 4th place in the 16 team Bulldog Bash at Holmes High School. Wins over Campbell County and Highlands in pool play put the Pioneers in the Championship bracket, but shut out loses to Conner and Newport Central left the Pioneers in 4th. Jessica Farris had a strong showing over the weekend with 8 hits in 12 at bats. Next action will be Wednesday at Simon Kenton against Campbell County, followed by a trip this weekend to London to play in the 5 star prep showcase tournament.
