Pioneers fall to Rebels

The Simon Kenton boys team took on the surprising Boone County Rebels at the Joe tonight. The Pioneers lose their first game of the season to Northern Kentucky competition by a final score of 59-56. SK held a 13 point lead with 4:46 in the fourth quarter but squandered the lead and fell to defeat. SK also held leads at the end of the first, second and third quarters by 4, 7 and 10 respectively. The Pioneers nemesis tonight was free throw and three point shooting (sounds familiar) as they only hit 3 out of 11 foul shots and 1 out of 14 three point attempts. Boone on the other hand went to the charity stripe 26 times. SK racked up 6 more field goals than Boone.

The Pioneers averaged 73 points per game prior to the game when Hester was injured. Since that time, they have averaged roughly 59 points per game.

Josh Hurd led all scorers with 19 points on 9 out of 13 shooting and also posted 8 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Josh Elbert posted a nice game with 13 points, 8 assists and 8 boards. Zach Layne added 12 for SK. Boone's bench contributed 16 points while SK only came up with 6.

The JV team lost their first game of the season by a final of 53-52 in a game with several ties and lead changes down the stretch. Boone won the game at the foul line with just .3 of a second left on the clock.
