Lady Pioneers Open the Season

The Simon Kenton Lady Pioneers basketball teams opened the season with wins posted by the Frosh, JV and Varsity squads at the Joe in Independence. The Freshman team beat Brossart by one on a game winning basket by AP Ponzer. The JV cruised in a win over the Williamstown Demons.

In varsity action, the Lady Pioneers jumped out to a first quarter lead of 24-7 and went on to a 70-24 victory in 32nd District play . Sophomore Chelsea Tolliver scored the first 6 point of the game in which the Lady Pioneers came out and showed some strong offensive execution. On the defensive side of things, the Pioneers forced the Demons into 45 turnovers for the game and held Williamstown to single digit scoring in every quarter. Kayla Smith had 5 steals for the night as part of that defensive effort. Junior point guard Lauren Conley posted a nice game with 7 assists. Junior guard Jessica Farris came in for Tolliver, who got into foul trouble in the first half, and racked up 10 points including 2 three pointers. Sophomore Lyndsay Figgins lead all scorers with 17 points including 4 three pointers. The Lady Pioneers won't see game action again until December 8th when they will travel to Grant County for another district game.
