SK, ranked 15th in the latest coach’s poll, headed
due west tonight for a match-up with the Ryle Raiders, the 6th ranked team
in the state. SK’s recent success has
been something new to the girls from Indy but they have been still searching
for that affirming win. On paper, this match with Ryle certainly looked like a good
prospect.
SK came out of the gate on fire jumping
out to a 6-1 lead only to see Ryle come back and tie the set at 7. Sounds a little like last night, huh? Ryle went on a serious run to take a
commanding 21-11 lead. SK didn’t quit
and made a nice run of their own to end up on the short end of the scoreboard
by a score of 16-25.
The one thing I’ll say about this team; they will not
quit. Again, they played very strong in
the beginning of the second set going up by a score of 9-7. Ryle’s fortitude in the middle of the set was
enough to get on a streak once again giving them a 23-16 lead. SK would get some nice points at the end of
the set as they still fell short by a score of 19-25.
In the third set, the Neers jumped out to a 12-0 lead. Ryle went on a run to get within 4 points
where the match kind of stayed. Ryle
would come back and tie the match at 23 and went on win by the magical number of 2. Give Ryle credit; they are a great team and did what they had to do all night when their backs were against the wall.
Key stats for the night, Kaitlin Murray had 8 kills and 12
digs, Saralyn Callahan had 6 kills, Haley
Robinson had 3 kills and 3 blocks, Sophia Dunn had 24 assists and 5 aces and Kelsey
Henderson had 16 digs.
That big win is coming for this team as there are just too
many good things going on for it not to.
The good thing about tonight; it doesn’t affect the team’s chance at all
for what happens when the real season starts, all tonight did was make the team
better. Nice job players and coaches and good luck this weekend at the tourney at Highlands. You have big chance to do some great things in this tourney.
The freshman and JV teams also took it on the chin
tonight. However, in one of the best
comebacks I’ve ever seen in v-ball, the JV team was getting blown out of the gym 11-1 and
17-4 in the first set. SK came back and tied the game at
20 only to fall 20-22. A nice example of
why you never quit.
