Ryle got on the board before I even had my camera set. On the second play from scrimmage, the Ryle QB, Davis, darted over the right side and in front of the Ryle bench and took the ball to the new greenhouse. The extra point was good and Ryle had all the points they needed for the win. Ryle would score another TD on their third possession on a pass to their tight-end Ryan Smith. Smith was only touched by his teammate who almost knocked him down. Smith regained his balance and scurried off for a 14-0 first quarter lead.
Meanwhile, SK moved the balls between the 20’s but never got the ball into the red zone. The teams head to the locker room for the half-time show and a very nice job by the SK Band and Dance Team.
The third quarter was a defensive struggle as neither team scored. Once the fourth quarter set in, SK’s defense continued to play strong while the offense still failed to get on the board. Some mo would come to SK when Mikey Krallman blocked a punt that ended up deep in Ryle territory. Nate Powell would end up scoring a touchdown for the Neers only score of the game. The extra point failed but the game certainly felt winnable for SK at that point. SK decided to go for an onside kick following the touchdown that ended up only going 5 yards and out of bounds. Ryle chose to take the ball at the out of bounds spot and took it from there for another touchdown for the final score at 21-6.
Ryle showed themselves they can beat a district foe while the Neers go back to practice this week looking for some more grunt on offense. The defense for SK continues to play well and I’m sure the O will get moving before the real season comes around.
