It was a beautiful night for football and with both teams undefeated on the young season, it looked like the game to see as evidenced by the fact that Coach Rich Brooks from UK stopped in, should say, flew in, to take in some of the action. He didn’t stay long-- but long enough to see Miles Simpson open up SK scoring for the early 7-0 lead. Dixie had trouble holding onto the football during the first half and put the pigskin on the ground three times during the half. The Pioneers capitalized by jumping out to a 21-0 lead. Dixie didn’t quit and came back to cut the lead to 28-14 by time half-time with some momentum going in to the locker room. Dixie came out with a quick drive in the second half and punched the ball in for a TD but the Pioneers hit the gas and stretched the lead back and cruised to a 49-28 win.
SK’s offense looked better tonight. Miles’ ankle looked to not hamper him as much as it did last week but he still is not 100%. Probably a good thing for Dixie as Simpson rushed for approximately 200 yards and scored 5 (4 on ground, one through the air) touchdowns. Austin Baldwin scored his first career TD in the second half digging in and pushing backwards for the score.
Dixie’s passing game was effective at moving the ball ad most of their yardage came from nice passing plays. SK also seemed to give up field position on special teams as kick-off returns got a bit dicey.
Bottom-line is the offense was very strong and a lot of fun to watch. It was an awesome atmosphere for high school football tonight; good stuff for sure.
After I got home tonight and looked at the pictures, I was kind of amazed by this series of pictures shows just how dangerous Miles Simpson can be as 3 or 4 Colonels had him wrapped up before he broke multiple tackles and took it to the house.
Here he goes.
Looks like 32 has a bead on him.
Umm, 32, I wouldn't try to tackle him up there...
Hey 6 come here and help...
No problem, I got you covered.
58 says, I will do you one better and strip the ball.
Well, maybe not.
I may not have the ball but he isn't going anywhere.
Looks like he is going down.
Play looks to be just about over.
Better not hold on too much longer 58.
No, really;
Hey, where's Miles?
Oh, there he is.
This isn't going to be good;
Uh oh....there he goes again.
Let's try again.
Gone again...
