SK Meets Spencer in 8th Region First Round

SK jumped out to a 25-1 at the end of the first quarter and cruised to a first round victory in the 8th Region Tournament. Once again, the defense turned to offense as the girls looked very strong in the opening night of the tournament. Spencer County was making its first known appearance in the regional tournament after knocking off Shelby County in the District. Congratulations to Spencer County on their strong season.

Tonight marked a reunion of sorts. SK Seniors Kayla Smith, Chelsea Tolliver, Lyndsay and Caitlyn Figgins played basketball together for Taylor Mill Boosters while they were in elementary school. Another player on the team was Ashley Wiley, daughter of former SK baseball player Kevin Wiley. While the girls weren’t playing in Booster games, they participated in the Bluegrass State Games in Danville before they were old enough to play in AAU basketball. Tonight, the girls joined each other back on the court together for the first time since they were in the 5th grade. This time, instead of playing for the Booster team called the Moffetts, Ashley was running the point guard position for Spencer County.

I will probably get in trouble for this but I have attached a picture that the Wileys shared with us tonight. I believe this was the girls picture from their 4th grade team.

Congratulations on your awesome season Ashley and good luck next year in guiding the Bears back to the regional tourney.

The Lady Pioneers will now take on Oldham County on Friday night at 7:30.
