Lady Pioneers Win 8th Region Title with Blue Swarm D

WOW!!!! What a performance by the Lady Pioneers as they capture the 8th Region title for the second straight year and advance to Diddle Arena. The final score from the Championship Game at South Oldahm: 67-40. The game was put away early as the Bearcats had no answer for the BLUE SWARM DEFENSE. SK forced turnovers and turned them into baskets as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead. While SK was definitely the favorite, Anderson was expected to give the Pioneers a good game. It didn’t happen.

Get a load of this; SK led 20-5 after 1, 35-16 at half and 54-21 after 3. I would imagine it would be pretty difficult to prepare for this SK defense the way it was working tonight as Anderson committed 26 turnovers. Anderson star Lindsay Fultz fouled out in the third quarter having scored just 3 points on something like 1-10 shooting.

The team played with chemistry and focus tonight. It was apparent very early that the Lady Pioneers weren’t going to head north without the KHSAA walnut.

Bus 19 was met in Walton by the Independence Police Department for an escort and caravan back to Indy. The absolute coolest thing of the night had to be the band waiting for the girls to get off the bus playing the school fight song. Definitely a moment that a lot of kids won’t forget for a long time.

The three Pioneers on the all tourney team: Tolliver, Smith and L. Figgins, who got the starting nod in place of sister Caitlyn.

SK had not game closer than 20 points in District and Regional Tournaments. They have now won 17 straight games.

It was a bittersweet day for us. We were happy for Lyndsay but concerned and disappointed for Cait. Thank you to everyone who called or stopped us at the game tonight to give us best wishes.

Congratulations Lady Pioneers! You earned your crown. Good Luck against Breathitt County Wednesday night at 6:30 Central Time.
