The Pioneers captured their fourth consecutive 32nd District title tonight with a 54-51 win over Grant County. SK earns the berth in the Regional Tournament to be played next week at Henry County in the Roy gym. Not a lot you can really say about this game other than the fact that it was another grind it out Kentucky tradition post season tournament game. Neither team held more than a 7 point lead. Once you thought one team was going to extend a lead, the other team would come screaming back. SK held a 17-14 lead after the first quarter even though Grant came out with a lot of emotion and took a four point lead in the first. Coach Steiner subbed freely looking for the right combinations. Just like the opening night game against Williamstown, the SK coach usually pushed the right button as someone usually stepped up in a big way. The first half ended tied at 25 and SK held a 45-39 lead at the end of 3. Grant had a chance to pull even but at the end but launched the ball into the stands which allowed SK to maintain possession.
The all tourney team was comprised of Barnes, Chambers and Sorrell. All three guys had a good two games and delivered buckets when they needed to.
Congratulations to this team. This was a season where there was probably some doubts about whether this team could win the district. The guys got it together at the right time of the year when they needed to. Let’s hope that the roll that they are on can continue for a regional championship.
