Lady Pioneers with Win Versus Rockets

The Pioneers have only been in the 8th Region for four years but there has been a nice rivalry between the two schools that has developed. Shelby won the 8th Region in 2006 and 2007 and of course SK won last year. They have had some really exciting games over the last several years and with the Rockets traveling to northern edge of the 8th Region tonight, most people were expecting another tight game. SK wanted no part of another double overtime like the last time the Rockets visited the Joe as they jumped out to a 16-4 first quarter lead. The Rockets made a nice run on the Pioneers at the beginning of the second and closed the lead to 18-11 with 5:38 in the second. The Pioneers got back on the gas and scored 8 points over the course of the next minute and went on to lead 41-19 at half as Chelsea Tolliver had 19 points at the intermission.

SK got back with playing solid to start the third and extended the lead to 48-23 with 4:44 in the third. The Pioneers got a little sloppy with the basketball in the quarter but still led 60-36 at the conclusion of the third. I wouldn’t say the team played great in the fourth quarter but they had a big enough lead that held up for the 73-57 win.

Sidney did a nice job of controlling the offense tonight.

Coach grabs his arm and winces as somebody scored with an "and-one" using the left hand. Pretty funny moment.
