Opening Day for Independence and Community Field at SK

The first official games took place tonight as the Lady Pioneers soccer teams hosted the Lady Mustangs of Brossart. The Lady Stangs take two of three from SK as the freshman team lost 2-1, the JV won 1-0 after a Taylor Secrist second half goal and the varsity went down to a 2-1 defeat. The varsity team fell behind 2-0 at half-time but rallied for a second half goal from Krista Russell from about 25 yards out. The Pioneers put several shots on frame, literally, in the second half but were unable to tie or take the lead. SK played a more physical game in the second half as the tackling greatly increased from the Pioneers, especially from the Russell and Cooper cousins.

Krista Russell and Makenzie Shultz from Brossart with a first half tackle on each other. Shultz is a fantastic athlete who returned from ACL surgeries on both knees. She sure didn't play like it tonight.
