Shelby County Wins at Home versus Lady Pioneers

The Lady Pioneers traveled to Shelby County for a meeting with the Lady Rockets. Shelby County comes away with the win 57-44 on their HOME court and completes the weekend sweep of the basketball match-ups. (Note emphasis on home.) The Rockets jumped out to a quick 14-5 lead in the 1st quarter. The Pioneers made a nice run to take a half-time lead of 25-20. That was about all of the good news for the Lady Pioneers as the Rockets made a run in the third and cruised on to the win.

Key stat of the game: Big Number 1; which is the grand total of fouls called against the Rockets in the second half. When was the last time you saw only one foul called in a half against a team? I am certainly not blaming the referees because good teams adjust and rise above; but there were several non-calls that made things tough on the Lady Pioneers, especially in the second half.

The Pioneer challenge was made even tougher as Chelsea Tolliver and Kayla Smith were both under the weather.

Yes, it was a loss for SK but there was certainly a feeling that this match-up could have a different outcome if these two teams get to meet again. There are several other good teams in the 8th Region but these two teams have the chance to be there in the end.

Caitlyn Figgins was told yesterday by her doctor that she may get released in two weeks depending on how her cracked vertebrae responds to therapy.

SK gets back to NKAC play on Tuesday at Campbell County.
