Lady Pioneers Raid Trimble County

The SK Lady Pioneers hit the road for a bus trip tonight to Bedford, Kentucky to take on the Trimble County Lady Raiders. (Trimble County is located southwest of Carrolton and due south of Madison, IN.) The Pioneers came out fast tonight and jumped out to a 23-7 first quarter lead. The Pioneers went on cruise control from that point and took Trimble by a final score of 63-33 in what was probably SK's most complete game of the season. The Blue Swarm defense turned turnovers into easy transition baskets. SK forced 35 Trimble turnovers on the night led by Lauren Conley and Lyndsay Figgins each posting 6 steals. The defense was so strong that Trimble only managed to get off 27 shots for the night compared to SK's 67. SK did slightly outrebound the Raiders.

SK was led for the third straight game by Chelsea Tolliver who put up 18 points on the night. Tolliver made some strong moves to the bucket for several nice scores and also connected on two treys. Lyndsay Figgins was the only other Lady Pioneer in double figures with 10 points. Lauren Conley put up a nice game with 7 points and 5 assists for the night. Senior Kayla Stephens came in and knocked down two treys on the night.

Tonight's game started out similarly to the game last year's game at the Joe with the Raiders where SK jumped out to a big first half lead only to let Trimble back into the game. The difference tonight was SK didn't let up and allow the strong outside shooting game of Trimble to get on track.

In JV action, the Pioneers lost a tough one tonight. SK led for most of the game but Trimble behind some strong fan support took a fourth quarter lead. The Lady Pioneers were down 7 with 56 seconds in the game. On the strength of strong backcourt defense led by Ali Ponzer, SK was able to force the game into OT. SK took a 1 point lead with only 10 seconds left in the overtime period but Trimble still had the ball. Trimble called timeout, ran a play and drew a foul with .8 on the clock after what appeared to be a missed travelling call. The Trimble player knocked down two foul shots for the win by a final of 40-39. Ali Ponzer led SK with 13 points followed by Destiny Consentiono's 11.

SK plays New Cath in a triple header tomorrow night at SK. The night at the Joe was originally supposed to be a Boy/Girl Varsity double header but the boys game was cancelled.

Senior Kayla Stephens knocked down two threes for the night.


Freshman Ali Ponzer made it real difficult for the Raiders to get the ball across mid-court in JV action.
