The Lady Pioneers jumped on the Grant County Lady Braves from the start of the game and never looked back as SK ran its record to 2-0 in Dry Ridge tonight. SK wins the game by a final score of 54-26.
Sophomore Lyndsay Figgins scored 11 first quarter points as SK jumped out to a 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. SK hit Grant with a 3 point barrage in the first quarter as Figgins, Lauren Conley and Chelsea Tolliver all connected from behind the arc. For the game, the Lady Pioneers shot a respectable35% from behind the three point line on 6 of 17 shooting. The second quarter saw the Pioneers work the ball into the post with Caitlyn Figgins tallying 8 points in the quarter. She ended up with 12 for the game. The Lady Pioneers led by a half-time score of 37-12. SK came out in the second half and put things on cruise control and only put 17 points on the board in the second half. Coach Stowers was able to rotate the line-up enough in the second half to see everyone get playing time and have 11 different players score.
Tolliver led all Pioneers in scoring with 13 points as she was able to penetrate the lane for some short baskets and lay-ups. Conley did a nice job once again leading the Pioneer offense and also was able to connect on 2 of 4 three point shots. Kayla Smith had huge night on the glass posting 10 rebounds. While Smith wasn’t rebounding, she was blocking Grant County shots posting a total of 4 blocks on the night. Smith also posted 3 assists on the night by making some really nice entry passes into the post.
For the second game in a row, the Pioneers were able to hold their opponent to under 30 points. SK held Grant to 6 out of 36 in the field goal department. The Pioneers were able to net 15 steals on the night.
The Lady Pioneers will next face the Walton Verona Lady Cats at the Joe on Monday, December 11th.
