Pioneers Varsity Breaks Streak, Takes Boone 3-1

The Lady Pioneers broke their losing streak tonight against Boone County in Florence. Boone put an early goal on the board when Brittany Bridgers scored on a header. The Pioneers came back on a nice goal by Junior Stephanie Cagle off a pinball-like assist from Bri Marti. Cagle put another goal in the net before half-time when the keeper came out wide and played the ball short which allowed Cagle to capitalize on the open goal. The Pioneers added one second half goal when sophomore Krista Russell put a nice cross in the box that Marti drilled in the net with a perfect header.

Boone struggled to get on track. Freshman "AP" Ponzer kept the very dangerous Brittany Setters in check for most of the game with some help from "O" Bach in the second half. Kelsey Rust put together another nice game and was always in the right spot keeping the Boone attack from getting started. Senior Annie Hamm had some tough tackles throughout the game. Seniors Shari Cooper, Jessie Brandner and Junior Shay Nienaber did a nice job controlling the center midfield while the Russell Sisters did a nice job on the outside. Senior Keeper SKelly had a key save late in the second half which kept Boone from getting a momentum goal.

The Walking Wounded. The versatility of Liz Reilly (L-knee injury) and Marie Cooper (hang nail) has been missed in recent games.

Senior Shari Cooper did a great job controlling the mifield against Boone.

Sophomore Krista Russell was able to put several nice runs together from the outside providing the Pioneers with several scoring opportunities.

Sophomore Bri Marti added some spark on the offensive side of the field for the Pioneers.
