Big news tonight was Sydni Wainscott’s return to the line-up. The point guard didn’t look 100% but she played good enough to come up with some key baskets and played every minute of the game if my memory is correct.
Walton scored the first basket of the game and led after the first frame by a score of 10-6. The Pioneers held WV to 6 points in the second quarter and went up by a half-time score of 18-16 after a bouncing ball ended up in Nicki Brown’s hands that was converted to a lay-up at the buzzer.
The game had a defensive tone to it that was just scrappy. Lots of pushing, hooking, diving, elbowing, and grabbing going on from both sides. The Pioneers struggled at times with some unforced errors but really kept their poise down the stretch when it was needed the most.
SK led 32-26 after the third quarter and started to look like they were going to pull away from the Lady Cats. Not so; WV went on a 8-2 run to open the final frame and would knot the score at 34 with just under three minutes in the game. SK got it together and dominated the last 2 ½ minutes to go on a 7-0 run to secure the win. Congrats on the #1 District Seed!!
A little pre-game discussion.

Ali Ponzer scored SK's first four points.

A nice sized crowd watched Kayla Blevins score this bucket.

Can someone show me how to make a Jacob's Ladder?

Dancin' in the Paint.

Sydni Wainscott back in the line-up after missing a week with an ankle injury.
