Tough Night for the Home Team...

The SK Boys took their turn in the Kenton County Classic tonight by hosting the Lafayette Generals from Lexington. SK falls to Lafayette by a final of 72-62. The Pioneers trailed by 14 at half-time; 34-20. Langdon Barnes had 16 out of the 20 points for SK at half.

The Pioneers came out in the second half and fell behind by 16. Nick Gray pumped in 3 treys and Tyler Blau grabbed 2 offensive rebounds for put-backs and the Pioneers were back in business only trailing by 4. SK made much of their run with Blau, Gray, Austin Baldwin, Ethan Ball and Grant Schneider. The Generals had a few fourth quarter runouts and the Pioneers failed to rotate back and suddenly the lead was back to 10. Coach Steiner went to an offensive and defensive substitution pattern down the stretch but the Eers just couldn’t trim the margin.

SK dug back into the game but defensive miscues down the stretch seemed to be the key. They just couldn't get the stop they needed.

Barnes had a strong scoring night and finished with 24 points on 9 for 13 shooting and 6 for 6 from the line. Give Tyler Blau the hustle award tonight as he crashed the glass and challenged the Generals on the defensive end despite giving up some size. Nick Gray was the only other double figure scorer with 11.

The Pioneers next game in the Classic is TBA.
